Tea Brick

Tea bricks are one of the most visually striking forms of processed tea. The origin of the brick is rooted in the ancient spice trading routes of the 9th century Far East. Traders transported everything by camel or horseback so all goods had to take up as little space as possible. Tea producers, wishing to export their product devised a way of compacting processed tea leaves tightly into molds and drying them in the sun. The tea bricks became so popular that by the 19th century and even into the early 20th century pieces broken from a brick were used as currency in Tibet, Mongolia, Siberia and northern China.

Although tea bricks are absolutely useable, most people enjoy them for their aesthetic quality. The detail is so sharp and exquisite you will admire it as the work of art it truly is. These tea bricks make a unique gift and display beautifully when placed in an upright plate holder.

For the tea purist who has everything, this is a gift you can be 99% certain he or she will not have already.
